Privacy Policy

1. Who we are
OtayoriJapan (the "Service") is operated by DokodemoJapan (the "operator", "we", "us"). This policy explains what personal data we collect through this site and the Service, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and how you can exercise your rights over it. Full operator details are in the Terms & Business Disclosure.
2. What we collect, and why
We collect only what the Service needs to function:
- Email address — when you join the mailing list or subscribe. Used to deliver the weekly brief and the CSV export (on applicable plans), and to send account and billing notices (for example, price-change or renewal notifications).
- Billing information — if you purchase a subscription, payment is handled by our payment processor (a merchant-of-record service). We do not receive or store your full card details; we receive confirmation of payment, your plan, and the billing email you provide.
- Support correspondence — if you email us, we keep the correspondence so we can handle your request and follow up.
We do not collect data for advertising, we do not sell or rent personal data to third parties, and we do not enrich your email with data from other sources.
3. Cookies and tracking
This site does not set cookies and does not run analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts. If that ever changes (for example, if we add analytics), we will update this policy first and, where required, ask for consent before setting non-essential cookies.
4. Legal bases (UK / EU visitors)
Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies, we rely on the following legal bases for processing:
- Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — delivering the brief, the CSV export, and account/billing notices to subscribers.
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — sending the brief to non-paying mailing-list signups. You can withdraw consent at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — handling support correspondence and keeping minimal records needed to run the Service securely.
- Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) — retaining billing records where tax or accounting law requires it.
5. Who processes your data
We share personal data only with service providers who process it on our behalf to run the Service — an email delivery provider (to send the brief) and a payment processor (to handle subscriptions). Each processes your data under its own contractual and legal obligations. We do not share your data with anyone else, except where required by law.
6. International transfers
The operator is based in Japan (which holds an EU adequacy decision), and our service providers may process data in other countries, including the United States. Where a transfer requires safeguards under UK/EU law, we rely on the providers' standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
7. Retention
- Mailing-list emails — kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, after which they are removed from the active list.
- Subscriber account data — kept for the life of the subscription and then deleted or anonymized, except billing records we must retain for tax and accounting purposes.
- Support correspondence — kept as long as reasonably needed to handle and document the request.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. UK/EU residents also have the right to lodge a complaint with their supervisory authority (in the UK, the ICO).
To exercise any of these rights — including asking us to delete your email address entirely — contact us at the address below. We respond by email and aim to resolve requests within one month.

9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way, we will notify mailing-list members and subscribers by email before the change takes effect, and update the "Last updated" date above.
